Snow watching a swamp potato take down his empire with a mockingjay pin and a pretty song: >:/
I’m the number 1 Coriolanus Snow hater. of Coriolanus Snow has a million haters, I’m one of them. if Coriolanus Snow has 100 haters, I’m one of them. if Coriolanus Snow has one hater, it’s me. if Coriolanus Snow has no haters, I’m no longer alive. if the world is with Coriolanus Snow, I’m against the world. i hate Coriolanus Snow until my last breath
Listen, I have hunger games brain rot but not in an “everlark” way, in an “I can’t stop thinking about the politics of revolution” way
I’m sorry but I just do not subscribe to the opinion that the hunger games movies were in any way bad or that they “butchered” the characters or themes that suzanne so meticulously and lovingly created, because a) she was always a constant presence in the creation of those movies and the directors/producers were very respectful and mindful of the differences between her books and what they could actually implement in a visual medium that would make sense and propel the story forward in a way that made sense in their interviews, and b) even though the movies definitely don’t show all of the thematic nuances of the books, and although they do gloss over/erase a lot of the ways that the games affect katniss and peeta (namely his disability/her loss of hearing), and while the movies are quite preoccupied with the visual aesthetic and streamlining the story for a wider audience, they do still contain the heart and soul of the books and, to me, the creators seemed fiercely protective of suzanne’s core vision. also fuck you they’re just amazingly well-shot, well-written, and well-acted films, including the mockingjay movies, and i will die on this hill
can we acknowledge that movie coriolanus acts more selfless than book coriolanus? in the book he:
1) leaves billy taupe to harass lucy gray, while in the movie he punches billy taupe.
2) seems just scared of gaul and shocked by the snake situation rather than (in the movie) being concerned for clemensia when she’s taken away
3) sobs after sejanus’ death in a self pitying way, versus movie coriolanus’ crying & apologies seeming genuine
all this to say, snow’s selfish as hell in both adaptations, but he is portrayed as more selfless in the movie, and it’s not just because the audience doesn’t have access to his inner thoughts. he actually acts that way.
um. also the tbosas line where coriolanus thinks to himself “ohhh could tigris ever weaponize her mother’s furs the way i weaponized the compact?” and then over half a century later tigris hides rebels in her fur stashes and gives them great big fur coat disguises. I’m going to die
“Then be kind, Coryo,’ she snapped ‘and try not to look down on people who had to choose between death and disgrace.”
Tigris you will always be famous
Some of you read with your own eyes snow literally talking about owning Lucy Gray and still thought to yourselves “this book is using this love story to humanize snow and make him a good guy” hmmmm interesting…
I fucking loved the movie but they did cut out some things that I wished stayed in
- The treatment of the Tributes. The way they dance for food, they’re treated by vets, they’re chained to the truck in the parade while corpses are dragged down the street
- The little plot line where Lyssie is saved from the bombs by Jessup and defends him on camera
- The moment that implies Tigris was a prostitute
- Clemensia up and about
- Ma Plinth and her relationship with Snows, because it’s so Fucked and I can’t not think about it constantly
- In general the Capitol being kinda uncertain about it all? In the books a lot of them are uncomfortable about it and make it known but here it’s just Sejanus and Tigris really
Don’t get me wrong, I really really like it, I was just surprised they skipped over some of these
